10/11/2020 - The Digestive Process - An Ayurvedic Perspective
This is the tenth in the series of workshops with Olea Oliva! in collaboration with Stillness Yoga.
In Ayurvedic cooking nutrients in food are viewed and measured in terms of six tastes; sweet, sour, salty, bitter, astringent and pungent. Ayurveda describes food based on the Six Tastes – or Rasa. These reflect a combination of the five great natural elements – Sweet (Earth + Water), Sour (Fire + Earth), Salty (Water + Fire), Pungent (Fire + Air), Astringent (Air + Earth), and Bitter (Air + Ether). The unique properties give what the body needs for proper functioning. The six tastes also have the function of nourishing the mind and providing satisfaction. This is essential!
The action and function of each of the Six Tastes is because of its unique elemental composition. If each of the six tastes is present in each meal, then all the nutrients your body needs will be present in the foods. In this workshop I will walk you through how the Six Tastes (Sweet, Sour, Salty, Pungent, Bitter and Astringent) can, indeed, be used to open us to our true nature of clarity, awareness and bliss!
We will also have a special meditation practice specifically guided by Stephanie Clement with Stillness Yoga.
