Chianti Poggio a Frati, Toscana IGT, Italy (2011) (IN-STORE WINE PICKUP with ID)
Rocca di Castagnoli: Located in the Gaiole district with vast extensions of vineyard land into the Castellina district of the Chianti Classico, Rocca di Castagnoli produces distinguished Chianti Classico. Their vines thrive in the Galestro soil, a stone look-alike form of compacted clay & shale, which contains high amounts of minerals. Owned by the Cali family, this estate has shown great integrity by aiming at a vineyard distinction on each label, to document the variety of soils and micro-climates; they are the only estate developing new low-yield head pruned Sangiovese vineyards in the region.
Notes: Succulent, round and inviting, the 2011 captures the essence of the year in its expressive, welcoming personality. Succulent dark cherry, kirsch, mint, rose petal, spice and sweet tobacco overtones add nuance on the generous finish.
